Pedigree Analysis — Breeder’s Perspective
There are two words that immediately come to mind that describe the cow family that produced Panic. The first word is “substance”. The cows in the family exhibit the kind of substance and ruggedness that we desire at Elquest. While they are cows with substance, they also maintain femininity and dairyness. They are not rugged and coarse, they are rugged and feminine. If you go back into the pedigree for six generations, you will find an EX-94 Linjet daughter. The Linjet influence still can be seen all these generations later.
The second word is “fertility”. We rarely breed cows back less than 90 days in milk. We don’t use any of the normal reproductive protocols utilizing hormones. Panic’s dam has calved at 1-8, 2-9, 3-9, and 5-0. The only reason she went several extra months between her third and fourth lactation was that we decided she needed a bit of a break. Panics 2nd dam calved at 1-9, 2-9, 3-10, 5-1, and 6-3. His third dam is currently carrying her 8th calf and is not 10 yet.
We don’t expect Panic to sire your next show winner. We do however, expect that he will sire a moderate sized cow with the substance and fertility to perform well in a variety of different environments.
