Pedigree Analysis
Lion King brings the best of Mt-Glen’s two most prolific cow families into one package. On the top side of the pedigree is Jonah, a proven bull from the “J” family known for their longevity, good confirmation and high butterfat test.
His dam is an EX-92 cow who is a maternal sister to Dundee Lovely, the great cow behind Lynch and Lincoln. Lynette is sired by a Mt-Glen bull who was a Damion son from an EX-94 Eland daughter. At 9 years old, Lynette produced extreme components; especially protein, with a lifetime-to-date average of 3.4%. She is a proven transmitter also with an EX-92 daughter by Dundee.
Lion King is such a balanced bull, exhibiting the decades of balanced breeding on both the top and bottom side of the pedigree. Here’s an A2/A2 Jonah son from the famous Broker Lucy line at Mt-Glen Farms!

305-AA is the standardized milk, fat, and protein yield estimate used by CDCB to compare cows of different ages, parities, breeds, and regions on equal footing. According to CDCB and USDA AGIL, it represents “a 305-day lactation record at 36 months of age” — hence “Average Age,” or AA.
It replaced 305-ME (Mature Equivalent) in June 2024 for published records and was implemented in the calculation of CDCB genetic evaluations effective August 13, 2024. ME had been the standard since 1935.
How it is calculated
The new factors are applied as a series of separate multipliers for age-parity, season, previous days open, and milking frequency. Lactation records are adjusted upward or downward to what the cow would have been expected to produce as a 36-month-old, milked twice daily for 305 days.
Key adjustments include:
- Age-parity: Standardized to 36 months rather than ME’s mature range of 61–86 months depending on breed.
- Season/climate: Seasonal effects are now estimated within five regions defined by the average climate zone scores for each state, replacing the old three east-to-west geographic regions.
- Milking frequency: Still standardized to 2x milking, unchanged from ME.
- Previous days open: The methodology for this adjustment is also unchanged from ME.
